The Tulsa Health Department’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of all Tulsa County residents, in order to make Tulsa County the healthiest county in the country. This important work is done by award-winning team members and programs on a local, state and national level.
National Reaccreditation in 2019
Since its establishment in 1950, the Tulsa Health Department (THD) serves as the primary public health agency to more than 600,000 Tulsa County residents, including 13 municipalities and four unincorporated areas. The agency is one of two autonomous local health departments in Oklahoma, with statutory public health jurisdiction throughout Tulsa County and the City of Tulsa. THD was among the first health departments in the U.S. to receive national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board.
American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite
THD continues to be recognized as a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association . Gold level recipients have recognized the importance of a healthy workplace for employees and have taken steps to create a culture of wellness by providing support to employees.
Certified Healthy Business
THD has been recognized since 2008 as a Certified Healthy Business. The Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business status recognizes businesses that are working to improve employee health by providing wellness opportunities and implementing policies that lead to healthier lifestyles.
Diversity and Inclusion
THD has been recognized for our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Mosaic Tulsa, the diversity business council of the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce, recognized THD as a “Top Inclusive Workplace” in its 2019 Regional Inclusion Report. This annual report identifies top inclusive workplace cultures based on an evaluation of five key pillars: CEO commitment, diverse people, community outreach, internal policy and diverse suppliers.
